Asia: Global Challenges, Regional Conflicts, and National Logics

Call for Panels

The German Association for Asian Studies (DGA) is inviting submissions for panel proposals for its upcoming 2019 biannual conference, which will be held April 3–5, 2019 in Würzburg, Germany. The conference languages will be German and English. The deadline for panel submissions is August 15, 2018, 6:00pm (CET) (deadline extented: Aug 26).

We welcome proposals for panels that cover any topics related to modern Asia. We encourage particularly ideas that address topics relevant for a number of Asian countries, or for Asia at large. However, we will certainly also consider panels addressing issues specifically relevant for a single Asian country.

Panel suggestions should specify the topic, explain its relevance, as well as provide an overview of the panel’s core idea (max. 400 words). Please also be sure to include the contact details of the submitter. At this point, there is no need to recruit panelists, just submit you topical idea for consideration by the conference organizers.

The conference organizers will notify panel proposal submitters by August 25, 2018 whether their suggestion has been accepted or not. This notification will be followed by a call for papers for the accepted panels. Those who suggested the chosen panels will — in cooperation with the conference organizers — select papers and prepare the panels accordingly.

Please follow this link for panel submission.

We strongly encourage panel organizers not to wait until the last minute to submit proposals! Should you have any questions or encounter any difficulties in using the electronic submission system, please send an email to:
